807. Parandhāma

Parandhāma reveals the Divine Mother as the Supreme Abode and ultimate refuge of all beings. She is the eternal source, support, and final destination of creation, the limitless Consciousness in which all worlds arise and dissolve. The name teaches that the highest goal of spiritual life is to realize the Divine Mother as the true home of the Self and the foundation of all existence.

Parandhāma (परन्धाम)

This is the 807th name of the Lalitā Sahasranāma.

After revealing the Divine Mother as Parañjyotiḥ, the Supreme Light that illumines all existence, the Sahasranāma now reveals the abode and source of that light:

Parandhāma: She who is the Supreme Abode; She who is the highest resting place of all beings; She who is the ultimate goal, refuge, and foundation of the universe.

If Parañjyotiḥ describes the Mother as the Supreme Light, Parandhāma describes her as the Supreme Reality in which that Light eternally shines.

3. The Meaning of Dhāma

The word dhāma has multiple meanings:

Abode

The place where one dwells.

The place of safety and rest.

Support

That upon which everything depends.

Radiance

The source from which light emerges.

All these meanings apply beautifully to the Divine Mother.

4. The Supreme Goal

  • fulfillment,

  • freedom,

  • union with the Divine.

The Mother as Parandhāma is that final goal.

Nothing lies beyond her.

5. Why Does This Name Follow Parañjyotiḥ?

The sequence is profoundly Upaniṣadic.

Parañjyotiḥ

The Mother is the Supreme Light.

Parandhāma

Where does that Supreme Light abide?

In the Supreme Abode that is the Mother herself.

The light and its source are revealed as one.

6. Śākta Meaning

In Śrīvidyā, the Supreme Mother is the ultimate reality from which:

  • worlds emerge,

  • gods arise,

  • consciousness manifests.

All eventually return to her.

Thus she is the highest dhāma.

7. Śrīpura as Symbol

At the devotional level, one may think of:

  • Śrīpura,

  • Maṇidvīpa,

  • the Śrīcakra's bindu,

as the supreme abode of the Goddess.

Yet these sacred realms ultimately symbolize the highest state of realization.

8. Devotional Meaning

For devotees, Parandhāma signifies:

  • eternal refuge,

  • divine shelter,

  • final peace.

The Mother is the place where the restless heart finally comes to rest.

9. Advaita Vedāntic Meaning

Now the deepest layer.

A profound question

Can the Supreme Reality truly be called an abode?

The hidden teaching

Not a physical abode.

A metaphysical one.

The Ultimate Support

Everything depends upon something.

The body depends upon food.

Thoughts depend upon the mind.

The universe depends upon Consciousness.

The Mother as the Ground of Being

The Mother is called Parandhāma because she is the ultimate support of all existence.

Nothing supports her.

Everything is supported by her.

The Final Resting Place

All spiritual seeking ends when the Self is realized.

The seeker's journey culminates in the recognition of the ever-present reality that was never absent.

That reality is the Mother.

The Supreme Refuge

The world offers temporary shelters.

All of them change.

Parandhāma is the refuge that never changes because it is the eternal Self.

Beyond Place

The highest meaning of dhāma is not a location.

It is a state of being.

The Mother is the limitless Consciousness in which all worlds appear and disappear.

That Consciousness is the true Parandhāma.

Relation to Earlier Names

Observe the progression:

  • Parañjyotiḥ – The Supreme Light.

  • Parandhāma – The Supreme Abode and source of that Light.

The Sahasranāma now moves from illumination to the eternal foundation in which illumination shines.

The Non-Dual Meaning

At the highest level, Parandhāma signifies the Supreme Consciousness that is the source, support, and final resting place of all existence. It is the eternal reality into which all distinctions dissolve and where the seeker discovers perfect peace.

A Deeper Contemplation

The name Parandhāma is one of the great names of liberation.

Every journey has a destination.

Every river has an ocean.

Every search seeks fulfillment.

The Sahasranāma teaches that the final destination of all beings is the Divine Mother.

The sequence after Parañjyotiḥ is especially profound.

The Mother is first revealed as the Supreme Light.

Then she is revealed as the eternal abode in which that Light shines.

From a devotional perspective, Parandhāma is the Mother's supreme realm, the ultimate refuge of devotees.

From a Śākta perspective, she is the source and destination of the entire cosmos.

From a symbolic perspective, she is the support upon which all existence depends.

From an Advaitic perspective, she is the limitless Consciousness that is both the goal of spiritual seeking and the reality already present within every being.

The Mother is not merely a destination to be reached.

She is the eternal ground upon which every journey unfolds.

Ultimately, Parandhāma teaches that the Divine Mother is the Supreme Abode, the highest refuge, and the ultimate support of all existence. As the eternal reality from which all beings arise and into which they return, she is both the source and culmination of the spiritual journey. In realizing her, the seeker discovers the peace and fullness that constitute the true home of the Self.

To contemplate Parandhāma is to recognize the Divine Mother as the eternal refuge, the final goal, and the limitless Consciousness in which all existence finds its resting place.
